NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday appointed 1994-batch IPS officer Anurag Kumar as the new commissioner of Delhi Police, succeeding Satish Golcha.Who is Anurag Kumar?Anurag Kumar, an AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre officer, was serving as special director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) before being elevated to head the national capital’s police force. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the appointment order, stating that he will assume charge with immediate effect and continue in the post until further orders.Kumar succeeds Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, who had been serving as the Delhi Police commissioner since August 22, 2025. Before becoming the city’s police chief, Golcha was the director general of Tihar Jail.The MHA order also directed outgoing Delhi Police commissioner Satish Golcha, to report to the lieutenant governor of Delhi for his next posting.
