WhatsApp has been looking to bring video calling support on the web version for a while and once again the platform is said to be testing the feature. The new update has been spotted with the WhatsApp web beta that runs on browsers like Chrome, Safari and Firefox among others.
WhatsApp users have relied on the desktop app for Windows and macOS for calling support, but soon that is going to change. Video calling on Whatsapp web has been long awaited and we do hope the platform is finally close to making it happen. We have heard about its plans previously but this time does feel different.
WhatsApp Web Video Calling Tests Reach More Users
WhatsApp web beta calling feature has been mentioned by reliable tipster WaBetaInfo this week. The post suggests WhatsApp is doing its best to refine the experience of the video calling feature to bring it at par with Google Meet and even Zoom on these devices. Having said that, WhatsApp could be limiting its options so that the rollout can happen faster.
The tipster says WhatsApp web could have video calling support for up to 16 participants rather than 32 members who are allowed on the mobile version. A post shared previously by the same tipster suggested the web client of WhatsApp will see a new-look calling button right next to the search and three-dot menu.
Other than this, WhatsApp plans to allow people to schedule calls, create links for meetings that you share with other members and have them join at the given date and time. Call links have been a useful addition for many and WhatsApp groups find it easy to simply create an event and have everyone connected rather than inviting them separately.
The use of video calling is likely to help with the linked devices setup for WhatsApp users, which means all your scheduled calls are available across platforms. Which is why the WhatsApp web version upgrade is important and gives more people to rely on the messaging app for beyond chats and calls.
At the time of writing, the calling support did not work on WhatsApp web for us but it seems the rollout could be gradual and more users should see it supported in the next few months.
