Bettiah: A 10-year-old student of a private residential school at Harnatand under Laukaria police station area in West Champaran district died under mysterious circumstances on Friday morning. His family alleged that he was assaulted by two teachers, who have since been arrested.The deceased, Prince Kumar, a Class II student, was the son of Raj Kishore Sharma, a resident of Bhedihari Karmaha Tola under Valmikinagar police station area. His father works as a daily wage worker in Gujarat.According to family members, they received a call from the school’s operator, Harendra Mahato, early on Friday informing them that Prince’s health had deteriorated. When they reached the school, they were told that the child had been taken to the Harnatand sub-health centre. “When we reached the hospital, doctors told us that he was brought dead,” said Prince’s grandfather, Gopal Sharma.The family alleged that after bringing the body back to the school premises, they spoke to other hostel students, who claimed that teachers Hemraj Kumar and Deepak Kumar had brutally assaulted Prince on Thursday evening. They further alleged that the child had visible injury marks around his eyes and on his back, raising suspicion that he may have been beaten to death.Following the incident, Ramnagar SDPO Ragini Kumari, Bagaha SDPO Nihar Bhushan and Laukaria SHO Raman Kumar reached the spot along with police personnel and an FSL team. Investigators examined the hostel premises and collected evidence. The body was sent to Bagaha sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem examination.Ramnagar SDPO Ragini Kumari said police have launched a scientific investigation. “Prima facie, the case appears to be a murder. However, the exact cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem, forensic and inquest reports. The two named accused Hemraj Kumar and Deepak Kumar, both teachers, have been arrested and are being interrogated. Other school employees are also being questioned. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” she said.
