Patna: A special investigation team (SIT) of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Thursday took 30 accused lodged in Lakhisarai jail on a 72-hour remand in connection with the NEET re-exam fraud case.EOU ADG Amit Kumar Jain said, “The accused have been taken on a 72-hour remand after seeking permission of the special EOU court. The deputy inspector general (DIG) of EOU, Manavjit Singh Dhillon, will lead the interrogation.”The accused include 12 MBBS students and 18 employees of a biometric company. Investigators will question them about the alleged cheating network, money trail, paper leak and biometric fraud.Police suspect biometric staff helped solver gang members appear in the examination in place of genuine candidates, while middlemen allegedly collected huge sums from students and their families.The racket came to light during the NEET re-exam in Lakhisarai on June 21. Officials believe the interrogation and digital evidence could expose more links and identify other people involved.
