Bettiah: Tension gripped the sub-divisional hospital in Bagaha of West Champaran district on Friday after the family members allegedly vandalised the hospital premises after a woman give birth to a stillborn baby. The incident disrupted health services for some time and triggered chaos on the hospital campus.According to doctors, Ritesh Ram, a resident of Chautarwa police station area, had brought his pregnant wife to the hospital for delivery. The baby was stillborn. Soon after the family members were informed about the death, they allegedly raised slogans against the hospital administration and damaged property outside the labour room, accusing doctors and nursing staff of negligence.Dr Surendra Kumar Agrawal said, “I was attending patients in the OPD when a staff member informed me that the relatives of a woman admitted for delivery had started vandalising the hospital premises. The family alleged that the newborn died due to negligence on the part of doctors and nursing staff. However, the baby was stillborn and there was no lapse in treatment.”Following the incident, a team from Bagaha Nagar police station reached the hospital and brought the situation under control after pacifying the agitated relatives.Bagaha Nagar SHO Shailesh Kumar said, “Police rushed to the hospital after receiving information about the commotion and managed to calm the people involved. Two persons have been detained for questioning in connection with the vandalism. CCTV footage from the hospital is being examined and further action will be taken against all those found involved.”Police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the disturbance and identify others allegedly involved in the vandalism.
