KOLKATA: The Left Front on Thursday announced its second list of candidates for 32 seats. Names of key party functionaries like Mohammad Salim, Sujan Chakraborty and Satarup Ghosh did not figure in the list raising speculation if the leaders will stay away from the election.In the first phase, the Front had announced candidates for 192 seats. Later, CPI-ML (Liberation) announced candidates for an additional 10 seats. CPM state secretary Salim said that so far, candidates for 234 out of 294 seats have been announced.
Shanti Giri has been fielded in Nandigram. Partha Pratim Biswas will contest from Tollygunge. In Raninagar, the CPM candidate is Jamal Hossain. Lawyer Srijib Biswas has been fielded against Mamata Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari in Bhowanipore.In Ballygunge, CPM nominated Afrin Begum a face of protest at Jadavpur University.Nawsad Siddique’s party, ISF, is set to announce its candidates for 30 seats after Eid. Even then, seat-sharing negotiations for at least 20 seats remain to be finalised within the Front and with the ISF.
