NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain at isolated places across several parts of the country on Sunday, with Uttarakhand, central India, the Northeast and parts of eastern and southern India among the areas likely to receive heavy showers.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, while strong surface winds are expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

IMD forecast for Sunday

Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, coastal Karnataka, Jharkhand, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, north interior Karnataka, Odisha, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Uttarakhand.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, north interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.Thunderstorms with gusty winds are also possible over coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka, while thunderstorms with lightning are likely over Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand is likely to receive heavy rain on Sunday, with rainfall expected to continue through Thursday. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in isolated areas.Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad are likely to see scattered to fairly widespread rain over the coming days, while Himachal Pradesh may receive scattered rain from Sunday.

Central India forecast

Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rain on Sunday, with fairly widespread rainfall expected across the state over the coming days.Chhattisgarh may also receive heavy rain, with widespread rainfall likely through Thursday.Thunderstorms with lightning are likely over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha weather

Bihar is likely to receive heavy rain on Sunday, with rainfall activity expected to continue through Monday.Jharkhand may also see heavy rain, while Odisha is likely to receive heavy rain on Sunday. Odisha may see very heavy rain over the following days.

Northeast under heavy rain watch

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy rain on Sunday. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may also see heavy showers.Heavy rain is expected to continue across Assam and Meghalaya through Thursday, while Arunachal Pradesh may see heavy rain from Sunday to Thursday.

West India forecast

Konkan and Goa are likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall through Thursday.Central Maharashtra may see scattered rain, while Gujarat, Marathwada, Saurashtra and Kutch are also likely to receive scattered showers over the coming days.

South India rain forecast

Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep are likely to receive widespread rain on Sunday.Heavy rain is possible over coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka on Sunday, while Kerala and Mahe are likely to see heavy rain through Tuesday.Parts of Andhra Pradesh, north interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana may also receive rain.Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, north interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days

Rainfall activity is expected to remain widespread across several parts of the country through Thursday.Heavy rain is likely to continue over parts of the Northeast, central and eastern India, Uttarakhand and southern India.Odisha may see very heavy rain over the coming days, while Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand are expected to remain wet through Thursday.
