Krishnagiri: The forest department has filled up water tanks in the Hosur forest division to provide water for wild animals in summer. There are seven forest reserves in the Hosur forest division including Hosur, Denkanikottai, Anchetty, Urigam, Rayakottai, Krishnagiri and Jawalagiri. The Jawalagiri forest reserve, near Karnataka is home to elephants, leopards, tigers, bison, spotted deer, rabbits, foxes and other wild animals. During summer, these animals usually migrate from the forests in search of water.“Water in the Thenpennai, Cauvery and its tributaries in the forest areas have decreased due to intense heat,” said assistant conservator of forest Basav Singh. He added that this has led to a shortage of water forcing wild animals to enter residential areas. Hence the forest department undertook work to fill water tanks in forest areas in Hosur. Official used solar power to take water from deep wells and fill the water tanks in the forest. Officials added that tractors will be used to replenish drinking water in the tanks inside the forest throughout the summer to prevent wild animals from leaving the reserve forest area.
