Noida: Six vehicles were damaged after refuelling at an Indian Oil pump in Greater Noida, prompting an inquiry that found groundwater had seeped into the outlet’s underground storage tank and dispensing unit, contaminating fuel and rendering around 12,000 litres unusable.The incident came to light at the Pi-2 filling station after consumers complained that their vehicles had broken down soon after taking fuel on Saturday. As videos of stranded vehicles spread on social media, concern widened among residents, with rumours also circulating over fuel availability in the wake of the West Asia conflict.District supply officer Smriti Gautam confirmed that the department received complaints from six consumers whose vehicles developed faults after refuelling at the pump. Following the complaints, officials inspected the site along with Indian Oil Corporation representatives, ordered an inquiry and suspended sales.The probe found on Sunday that groundwater seepage had mixed with fuel in the underground tank and dispensing system. Repair work to stop the seepage was underway on Monday, and sales had not resumed till late in the evening.Gautam said the affected consumers would be compensated by the oil company for the damage caused to their vehicles. She added that petrol sales would restart only after the company completed its standard procedures.The incident also triggered wider public concern following social media comments over possible fuel shortages. Officials urged people not to panic, saying there was no such shortage in the city.
