US President Donald Trump has expressed interest in having his face added to the iconic and historic Mount Rushmore monument alongside the existing carvings of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

The idea has sparked support and opposition, raising questions about whether that’s possible.

The BBC’s Sarah Smith is in South Dakota ahead of the president’s visit to the monument, and looks at the political debate and practical challenges the proposition poses.
