LUCKNOW: A 50-year-old man was arrested in Sultanpur after a video allegedly showing him assaulting his six-year-old daughter and forcing her into a roadside drain surfaced on social media, police said.According to Kotwali Nagar police, the incident came to light on May 30 when a video was shared in a WhatsApp group called Vivek Nagar Sultanpur. The footage reportedly showed a man beating a young girl and forcing her into drain water while she cried and struggled to get out.Taking cognisance of the viral video, Nirala Nagar outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Sharma launched an inquiry. During the investigation, the accused was identified as Monu alias Yogendra Singh, a resident of Nirala Nagar and son of Omkar Singh.Police said the video showed the man physically assaulting his daughter and pushing her into a drain beside the road. Local residents reportedly intervened and tried to protect the child from further harm.The footage also allegedly showed the accused violently shaking and attempting to break the door of his house.Based on the video, which police treated as key evidence, a case was registered against Yogendra Singh under relevant sections of law. Given the seriousness of the allegations, a detailed investigation was launched.The inquiry was assigned to Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Patel. On Sunday, a police team comprising SI Vinod Kumar Patel, Head Constables Rupesh Yadav and Deepesh Hardenia arrested the accused and produced him before a court.The court remanded him to judicial custody, following which he was sent to jail.
