HYDERABAD: A dashcam video showing a group of bikers allegedly chasing a family’s car, threatening its occupants and hurling footwear at the vehicle on a Hyderabad highway has gone viral, prompting police to register a case and launch an investigation.The incident took place on June 21 on the Ghatkesar–Boduppal highway, but the family approached Ghatkesar police only on Monday after first sharing the footage on social media.According to police, complainant Sai Kumar was driving towards Uppal around 7pm with his wife, children and other relatives, including women and children, after attending a wedding when six youths on three motorcycles allegedly began riding recklessly in front of the car.“When the complainant honked, the bikers became aggressive and signalled him to stop. An argument followed after the car halted briefly. The accused allegedly provoked him to step out, but the family asked him not to. They then rolled up the windows and drove away, following which the bikers chased the vehicle,” Ghatkesar sub-inspector A. Shekhar told TOI.Police said the bikers allegedly threw footwear at the moving car in an attempt to force it to stop and also abused the occupants. The entire episode was captured on the vehicle’s dashcam.Investigators said they have been able to partially identify the motorcycles through their registration numbers and are working to trace the accused. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against unidentified persons, and further investigation is underway.
