Chandigarh: The Punjab Congress on Monday welcomed the announcement of municipal elections for May 26 as the “start of a countdown” for the current state govt and vowed accountability for partisan conduct.State party president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said the Congress was prepared to contest across the state and expected the Punjab State Election Commission to keep the process impartial. He alleged that police and administrative interference at the behest of the party in office had marred the previous local body elections. With the next state elections less than nine months away, Warring issued a warning to civil servants and police: “The Congress is certain to form the govt. We will not forget. We will not forgive. Our advice to all officials is to do your job with integrity, without fear or favour.”Warring characterised the upcoming municipal vote as a definitive referendum on the sitting govt’s future. He said: “These elections will be the last nail in its coffin.”MSID:: 131013996 413 |
