Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday questioned the Aam Aadmi Party govt’s claims of an “Education Revolution” in the state, alleging that it was taking credit for initiatives of the previous Congress govt while failing to address shortcomings in the education sector.During the fifth session of his ‘Warring with Warriors’ interaction, the Ludhiana MP alleged that the Schools of Eminence promoted by the AAP govt were based on Model Schools established during the Congress tenure and subsequently refurbished and renamed.He also raised questions over govt school enrolment figures, citing claims attributed to the Teachers’ Democratic Front about alleged irregularities in admissions. Warring sought a probe into the allegations and questioned the reported decline in the overall govt-school student population.Warring further alleged instances of disproportionate teacher postings, citing schools with very small student populations but several teachers. He also questioned the govt’s claim of having made Punjab “number one” in school education.He said the state continued to face a substantial shortage of teachers and principals, and demanded that the govt explain the vacancies and address concerns over the quality and management of school education.
