Vadodara: Two policemen suffered minor injuries after a police team was attacked with stones while attempting to apprehend a wanted accused in Khambhat late Monday night, police said.The accused, Akshay alias Lallo Naginbhai Chunara, managed to escape amid the stone-pelting, despite being located by the police, a senior police officer said.Chunara was booked in connection with a life-threatening attack on one Rahul Bhatt. Police said Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (Pasa) Act had been invoked against him and externment orders had been issued, after which he was absconding.Acting on a tip-off, a team from Anand local crime branch (LCB) and Khambhat City police, reached the Padhariya area around 10pm on Monday after receiving information that Chunara was at his residence.The police team located Chunara and moved to arrest him when his associates and some local residents began pelting stones at the personnel. Taking advantage of the chaos, Chunara fled. Two policemen suffered minor injuries and were provided medical treatment, the senior police officer added.After the attack, Petlad deputy superintendent of police, with personnel from Khambhat City and Rural police, rushed to the area. Additional teams from Anand LCB and special operations group (SOG) were also deployed. Police launched a combing operation across Padhariya to trace the accused and identify those involved in the attack.During the operation, around 23 people were detained for questioning, police said.Khambhat City police registered a case against Chunara and 54 other accused, along with 30 unidentified persons, for rioting and attacking public servants. Police intensified efforts to locate Chunara and identify those involved in the stone-pelting.
