Mumbai: The Walkers Path from Thakur Village, Kandivli West, to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) is likely to be shut down. Residents of Thakur Village, Kandivli West, on Monday submitted a written complaint about a road coming up in SGNP from the Thakur Village end.“We were informed that the BEST buses will now ply from this end of SGNP and not the main entrance at Borivli. The walkers, on the other hand, will have to go to the main entrance to access the park,” said a resident.Work on the road started last week. “We do not know if permission was granted for this road. The manner in which the soil around the trees is being removed means the trees are unlikely to survive. The JCBs also affected the wildlife in the vicinity, particularly a deer family that frequents the area,” said a resident requesting anonymity. Anita Patil, chief conservator and director, SGNP, did not respond to TOI’s queries. The BEST has cancelled a bus route A-188 from Borivli East railway station to Kanheri Caves in SGNP. In a press release, BEST said this was done to protect wildlife. Tribals complained that the stopping of the bus route impacted their children’s schooling.
