Pune: Residents of La Gloriosa, Silicon Bay and Nyati Enchante in Wadgaon Sheri-Kalyani Nagar may get interim relief from the sudden closure of their access road, with landowner Satish Mulik agreeing in principle to allow two-wheelers through the route until a proposed development plan (DP) road is completed. However, a permanent solution is yet to be finalised, with further discussions among the stakeholders expected over the next three to four days. The development follows a meeting involving the landowner, residents and elected representatives to resolve the access dispute that left families struggling to reach their homes after the road was dug up and blocked at night earlier this week.“Our meeting was a bit fruitful on Thursday. Mulik has assured us that he will give us access at least for two-wheelers until we get the DP road. Our next step is to follow up with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials to ensure the road is completed on an immediate basis,” a resident affected by the closure said. For residents, the interim arrangement could offer some relief, particularly to those who depend on two-wheelers for their daily commute. However, questions remain over access for cars, school vans and other vehicles, as well as the time required to complete the alternative road. The residents had said the route was being used for nearly 15 years and its sudden closure disrupted daily movement, raising concerns over access for senior citizens, children and people requiring medical assistance.Mulik, meanwhile, said the discussions were still at an early stage and that certain conditions had been placed before the other parties. “I have laid down some conditions during the meeting. More discussions are awaited with all parties, and we will surely arrive at a positive outcome in the coming three to four days,” he said. The dispute arose after Mulik maintained that the land belonged to his family and was intended for development. He had also said that a separate 80-foot road along the river was available to the housing societies and was already in use. Residents, however, have maintained that the disputed route had served as an important access point for years.Local corporator Narayan Galande said, “The immediate focus is now on translating the assurance into a workable arrangement and ensuring that the alternative DP road is completed without delay. We will continue to follow up with PMC officials, as temporary two-wheeler access alone will not address the daily commuting needs of all families.”For the 450 families living in the three societies, the next few days will be crucial in determining whether the discussions lead to reliable interim access and a time-bound solution to the long-standing road access issue.
