Nagpur: The Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti (VRAS) will stage a protest at Variety Square on Monday, alleging that the State Govt’s June 2 GR on the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmukti Yojana fails to provide meaningful relief to farmers. The organisation has announced a symbolic burning of the GR near the Gandhi statue at 12.30pm, describing the scheme as ‘deceptive’ and inadequate. VRAS office bearers claim the decision neither provides a blanket farm loan waiver nor ensures complete debt-free status for farmers.Led by youth wing state president Mukesh Masurkar, the protest is expected to draw activists from across the region. “Vidarbha’s farmers have suffered the consequences of policy neglect for decades. The June 2 GR does not provide the comprehensive relief that farmers were expecting and cannot be considered a true loan waiver. Our protest is not only against this deceptive decision but also a reminder that the concerns of Vidarbha’s agrarian communities continue to remain unaddressed. We demand complete debt relief, justice for farmers and policies that reflect the realities on the ground,” said Masurkar. The agitation will also seek to highlight the long-standing demand for a separate Vidarbha state. VRAS argues that despite being a predominantly agrarian region, Vidarbha continues to face challenges related to farm distress, irrigation and rural development. The organisation has urged the State Government to reconsider the scheme and announce broader debt-relief measures. It has also warned of intensifying its agitation across Vidarbha if its demands are not addressed.
