NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has urged people across political lines to join the party’s October 10 protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, saying the mobilisation was about protecting democracy and voting rights.Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has urpeople gedIn a post on X, Dipke appealed to people to “march with the youth” irrespective of their political affiliations.“For the nation, its democracy and our future, let’s all come together.Irrespective of your political inclinations, march with the youth to Jantar Mantar on October 10.Vote bachega toh desh bachega,” Dipke posted.

CJP calls for October 10 Jantar Mantar protest

The post comes ahead of the CJP’s planned October 10 protest seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.The party has been campaigning against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.CJP co-convenor Saurav Das and student organisations said on Wednesday that the October 10 mobilisation would be a united protest, with CJP, AISA, AISF and SFI among those backing the demonstration.The groups have said the agitation would continue until their demands on the electoral system are addressed

Delhi Police denies permission for CJP protest

The latest post also comes after the Delhi Police denied permission for the October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar.Saurav Das had submitted a formal notice at Parliament Street police station, informing police about the proposed demonstration and saying the organisers would cooperate with authorities.Police, however, subsequently denied permission for the protest.Questioning the need for permission at a designated protest site, Das said the police should focus on maintaining law and order and regulating traffic.

CJP says protest will continue despite police restrictions

Dipke has alleged that CJP supporters in Maharashtra were being pressured not to travel to Delhi for the October 10 demonstration.He accused Chandrapur Police of issuing notices to party workers and questioned why authorities were assuming the protest could turn violent.At a joint press conference with student organisations, Das urged supporters across the country to travel to Delhi and warned that the agitation could continue for a prolonged period.

CJP lists demands on Election Commission, SIR

Dipke has said the party’s demands include the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, criminal proceedings against him, a halt to the SIR exercise and an independent and neutral process for appointing Election Commissioners.The CJP had earlier announced the October 10 protest after its October 2 mobilisation at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. Thousands attended the Mumbai gathering despite police denying permission.
