Vadodara: Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), in association with Team Ramdoot and Team Clean Vadodara, organised a large-scale cleanliness and public awareness drive at the historic Karoliya Vav on Sunday morning.The drive is aimed at restoring the glory of the old stepwell and creating awareness among citizens about the preservation of traditional water sources and heritage sites. Volunteers and civic workers removed plastic and dry waste as well as bushes and vegetation from the stepwell and its surrounding areas.MLA Keyur Rokadiya said the initiative was part of the Seva Sankalp campaign and involved social organisations and community leaders. He said the restoration of Karoliya Vav would also be taken up in the future and stressed that the effort would continue for several days rather than being a one-day exercise.Municipal commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu said VMC had begun work at Karoliya Vav two to three weeks ago and would continue the initiative. He said the civic body also planned to take up cleaning work at Gorwa Vav. VMC is also working towards the renovation and purification of the city’s stepwells and temples, he said.The commissioner added that citizens, including youth, were being involved in the campaign and appealed to residents to ensure that the cleaned areas remained free of litter. A road and street cleanliness campaign will also be undertaken in the coming days, he said. Corporators, senior VMC officials, employees, social organisation volunteers and a large number of citizens participated in the drive.
