Mangaluru: Vivek Alva, managing trustee Alva’s Education Foundation, along with five other subject experts from India, will participate in theThird International Conference on Regional-Level Cooperation within BRICS Nations, with the conference theme ‘Modern Environmental and Nature Management Issues’, to be held in Petrozavodsk, Republic of Karelia, Russia, from Sept 15 to 17, organised by theKarelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in association withRussian National Committee on BRICS Research.Alva will deliver the keynote address on ‘From Awareness to Action: Community-Based Environmental Management in the Western Ghats.’ His presentation will focus on the role of communities and youth in environmental conservation, with particular reference to the Western Ghats.His session will also showcase the environmental initiatives undertaken by Alva’s Education foundation, including the creation of natural habitats like Shobhavana and Harish Bhat Pakshivana.Harish Bhat Pakshivana was recognised under the United Nations Act to Restore for climate action initiative in 2021. The foundation has also organised several environmental clean-up drives in association with various organisations. He will also highlight the Foundation’s major initiative covering 46 villages, which will be brought together through a conference titled Hasiru Samvada, scheduled to be held during Alva’s Nudisiri–VirasatonJan 6 and 7, 2027, in association with the Paryavarana Samrakshana Team.The Indian delegation includes academics and researchers like TV Ramachandra of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, Shwetha HR of NITK Surathkal, Nagraj S Patil of VTU, Bharath of Chanakya university and Anand Deshpande, principal, Angadi Institute of Technology and Management.
