Shillong: Visitors thronged Lok Bhavan in Shillong on Sunday, a day after its Independence Day opening.Meghalaya governor’s official residence is a 150-year-old heritage property spread across 30 acres near Ward’s Lake. Usually closed to the public, it opens on national days, when its front lawns host exhibitions and cultural programmes.Meghalaya also hosted an ‘At Home’ reception at Lok Bhavan to mark India’s 80th Independence Day. Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar and CM Conrad K Sangma interacted and exchanged greetings with citizens.The event celebrated the country’s heritage through art, music, dance and food. Its themes honoured the national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, and the vision of ‘Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat 2047’.A cultural programme titled ‘Colours of India’ featured troupes from across the country alongside performers from Meghalaya.
