Kolkata: In Dakshin Dinjapur’s Kumarganj, the BJP candidate was attacked by miscreants while in Murshidabad, Aam Aadmi Unnayan Party (AUUP) chief Humayun Kabir’s convoy vehicle was vandalized, as Bengal has gone to polling in first phase of polling in Bengal on Thursday.
Disturbing scenes were witnessed where Kumarganj BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar was seen running for life with his personal security, trying to escape from the hands of the miscreants.
Kumarganj BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar said, “There was an attempt to attack me. I have informed the ECI. Trinamool were not allowing BJP agents in the booths and I went to the booths. They did booth jamming and opposition agents were driven out. ECI is trying and there is CAPF mobilization issues. Police is one sided.”
Meanwhile, situation turned tense in Murshidabad’s Nawda as Aam Admi Unnanyan Party chief Humayun Kabir’s convoy vehicle was vandalized. Kabir was seen protesting in Nawda as scuffle broke out between Trinamool and AAUP. The area was stranded for several hours.
Kabir said, “The local police did not take any action or mobilize CAPF as they support Trinamool Congress.” In Labhpur, a BJP candidate’s polling agent Biswajit Mondal received head injuries. He has been hospitalized. In Birbhum’s Murarai, two Congress workers have been injured in poll related violence.
