Prayagraj: Vindhyachal railway station has been redeveloped by the North Central Railway (NCR) under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of Rs 23.24 crore. The station has emerged as a striking blend of modern infrastructure and the region’s rich spiritual heritage.The redevelopment work launched on Aug 6, 2023, transformed the station into a modern, passenger-centric transport hub while preserving its religious and cultural identity. According to NCR CPRO Dr Shivam Sharma, the project has significantly upgraded passenger amenities, accessibility and circulation, ensuring a seamless travel experience for thousands of pilgrims and other passengers visiting the shrine town.Inspired by the architectural style of the Vindhyavasini Mata Mandir, the station’s new building features temple-style domes and ornate pillars that pay homage to the town’s religious legacy. The old station building was demolished to make way for the new structure, which now houses upgraded ticketing facilities, spacious waiting halls, an executive lounge, retiring rooms, clean toilets and safe drinking water facilities, Dr Sharma informed.He further added that passenger convenience has been further enhanced with a new PRS counter, Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) for UTS ticketing, queue management handrails and low-height ticket counters. A wider entrance porch, modern concourse, landscaped surroundings, separate entry and exit points, improved circulating area, organised parking and a newly constructed approach road have also been developed to ensure smooth movement and reduce congestion.As part of the upgrade, Platform No. 1 has been revamped and provided with a new platform shed for better weather protection, while a 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge with provision for future lifts has been constructed to facilitate safe and convenient inter-platform movement. Modern passenger information systems and artistic installations inspired by local heritage further enrich the travel experience.Special emphasis has been laid on making the station inclusive through barrier-free infrastructure, including ramps, accessible toilets, a dedicated Divyangjan parking area and low-height ticket counters.
