Police at the spot attempted to regulate the crowd and urged supporters to maintain silence, but the noise continued

Trichy: A campaign by TVK chief Vijay at Marrakkadai junction on Thursday disrupted Class 10 public examinations at a nearby government school, with students complaining of noise during the test.

Around 175 students were writing their social science exam between 10am and 1.15pm at Syed Murtaza Government Higher Secondary School, located close to the campaign venue. Loudspeakers blaring songs and cheering supporters created disturbance through the morning, sources said.

The situation worsened when Vijay addressed the gathering between 12.35pm and 12.55pm, coinciding with the exam. “Students found it difficult to concentrate, especially after 12.30pm due to continuous noise,” a school official said.

The school had earlier submitted petitions to police and district authorities seeking measures to ensure a disturbance-free environment. “Despite this, the campaign went ahead and noise levels remained high during the exam,” the official added.

Police at the spot attempted to regulate the crowd and urged supporters to maintain silence, but the noise continued.

The venue choice also drew criticism from locals and on social media, with many questioning why permission was granted near an examination centre.
