Mysuru: The identities of nearly 1.3 lakh voters classified under the anomalies and no mapping categories in Mysuru will be verified by designated assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs), with the verification process being video-recorded to ensure transparency.Sources said that if these voters fail to authenticate their identities, the number of voters in Mysuru could decline further. The same applies to other districts where voters have been flagged under the anomalies and no mapping categories.Already, about 5.6 lakh voters were removed from the draft list under the ASDDO category in Mysuru, and now the onus is on voters to prove their identities by providing the supporting documents specified by the Election Commission (EC).Voters will first be served notices at their doorsteps by booth level officers (BLOs), and the officer will photograph the voter receiving the notice. If a voter is absent, BLOs must visit the registered address three times to ensure the notice is served. A BLO said they had been instructed to first contact such voters by phone and ask them to keep the required documents ready.According to the draft list, 1,12,270 voters have been flagged as anomalies due to spelling discrepancies in names and variations in age details, while the records of 15,854 voters could not be mapped to those of their parents or grandparents.Mysuru District Congress Committee vice-president Showkath Pasha, who is overseeing the special intensive revision (SIR) process in Mysuru city for the Congress, said even five days after the SIR exercise and the publication of the draft list online on Monday, notices had not yet been served to these 1.3 lakh voters. The EC has given two months for the rectification of electoral rolls.Showkath said that in the Narasimharaja assembly constituency, 21,125 voters have been marked as anomalies and 560 under the no mapping category. In the Chamaraja and Krishnaraja constituencies, 18,114 and 7,595 voters, respectively, have been classified as anomalies, while 565 and 594 voters fall under the no mapping category.Once notices are served, voters will be asked to meet the AERO at a designated time and place for the correction of electoral records. “Designated officers or the AERO will video-record the correction process to maintain transparency,” he claimed.Deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy, who is also the district election officer, said notices began being served on Friday, and officers had been directed to photograph voters while serving the notices.
