Kanpur: With the video showing a couple openly firing a gun during a wedding in Jalaun going viral on social media, police have taken cognizance of incident of celebratory incident, which is banned in UP.The incident took place on March 11 in village Husepura Jagir, also known as Jagammanpur, under the Rampura police station area. The wedding of Ankit, son of Devendra Prajapati, was being held in the village when the firing allegedly occurred. According to local accounts, the incident happened around 8 pm during the wedding ritual, when women were dancing to music as part of the wedding celebrations. Harendra Kumar, also known as Ranu Prajapati, a resident of village Bhitari and son of Kashi Prasad, allegedly arrived at the function carrying his licensed gun and began firing in the air. Witnesses said Harendra later handed the weapon to his wife, who also fired while dancing. People present at the venue alleged that the couple fired several rounds, causing panic among guests.Some attendees said the village’s former pradhan tried to stop them, but they ignored the warning and continued firing. A video of the episode was recorded by someone at the event and soon spread widely on social media, drawing public attention to the incident. Celebratory firing at weddings and public functions is prohibited under directions of the High Court and Uttar Pradesh govt. Jalaun police said on their official X account that they had taken cognisance of the viral video. The inspector in-charge of Rampura police station has been directed to investigate the matter and take action according to rules.
