Nagpur: Vidarbha’s first Gen Z-themed post office was inaugurated on Thursday at VRCE post office located inside Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, bringing a new format of postal services to a student campus.Designed to align with Gen Z preferences, the revamped post office combines smart, tech-enabled postal and financial services with a modern, interactive environment. A seamless digital interface has been introduced to simplify transactions and improve user experience. The VNIT facility is the third such revamped post office in Maharashtra and the first in Nagpur and Vidarbha to adopt a Gen Z-centric model.The VNIT centre goes beyond conventional service delivery by offering a campus-friendly space where students can spend time while accessing services. Facilities such as free Wi-Fi, a small library, carrom and chess boards, and a coffee vending machine have been added to create a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.Postal officials said the idea is to familiarise students with the functioning of post offices while making the space relevant to their lifestyle. The blend of services and recreational elements is expected to increase footfall and encourage young users to explore postal and financial offerings.The N-GEN initiative focuses on modernising post offices with upgraded infrastructure, digital systems and improved customer interfaces. The facility, developed under Maharashtra Postal Circle’s Next Generation (N-GEN) initiative, was inaugurated by VNIT registrar Sachin Jagdale and director Prem Lal Patel, along with director, postal services, Nagpur region, Dr Sudhir Jakhere. Senior superintendent of post offices, Nagpur city division, DLRSJ Prasuna Reddy, and assistant director postal services, Nagpur regional office Jayant Daoo were present.Officials said the initiatives are an effort to make postal services simple, accessible and future-ready, particularly for a generation that is more inclined towards digital platforms, while maintaining the core role of post offices as essential public service centres.
