Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Friday arrested a sub-inspector, posted at Rishiyap police station in Aurangabad district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. The trap was laid near the Panchayat Bhawan behind the police station.The accused, SI Umesh Kumar, had allegedly demanded the bribe to remove the names of two accused persons and certain sections from an FIR.According to the VIB, complainant Lakshman Ram, a resident of Ganpat Duar village under Rasidap police station area, had lodged a written complaint in Patna. He alleged that after counter FIRs were registered between his family and neighbours on July 15, SI Umesh Kumar, the investigating officer in the case filed by the rival party, demanded money to dilute the case.Lakshman claimed the officer sought a bribe to remove certain IPC sections from the FIR and drop the names of his two sons from the case. The SI allegedly threatened to add more serious charges if the demand was not met.After verifying the complaint, the VIB found the allegations to be prima facie true and registered a case.Acting under the supervision of senior superintendent of police (Vigilance) Santosh Kumar, a special trap team was constituted. As planned, vigilance officials nabbed the SI red-handed after he allegedly accepted Rs 50,000 from the complainant near the Panchayat Bhawan.A case has been registered against the accused under Vigilance Police Station Case No. 091/26. He was brought to Patna for interrogation and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court after completion of legal formalities.
