Begusarai: Vehicle owners can settle pending traffic violation fines at the National Lok Adalat to be organised on May 9 (Saturday) and may also receive a rebate of up to 50% on the total e-challan amount.Begusarai District Legal Services Authority secretary-cum-additional chief judicial magistrate Karunanidhi Prasad Arya said on Friday that the facility for settlement of pending traffic e-challan cases had been introduced for the first time in National Lok Adalat proceedings. The provision will apply to cases in which vehicle owners failed to deposit fines within the stipulated 90-day period.“A notification by the state govt in this regard has already been issued. The local transport office informed Begusarai principal district and sessions judge Rishi Kant about 35,000 pending cases in which people having vehicles registered in the district failed to deposit traffic violation fines. The Saturday Lok Adalat provides a golden opportunity to such defaulters,” Karunanidhi said.He said a large turnout of vehicle owners was expected because of the provision for on-the-spot settlement at reduced penalty amounts. “So, the district and sessions judge has directed separate arrangements for traffic challan case benches. Elaborate arrangements have been made at the Gandhi Stadium premises with all possible amenities for people,” he said.Apart from traffic challan matters, the National Lok Adalat will also hear certificate cases related to bank loans, electricity bills, weight and measures, forest and mining matters, besides family and matrimonial disputes. In addition to the district and sessions court, the Lok Adalat will also function simultaneously at sub-divisional courts in Balia, Manjhaul, Teghra and Bakhri.
