Kota: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jhalawar Wednesday arrested a village development officer (VDO) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,400.The accused, Rajni Meena, posted as VDO at Mau Borda gram panchayat under Khanpur panchayat samiti in Jhalawar district, was caught red-handed while taking the bribe from a complainant.According to ACB additional superintendent of police Prerna Shekhawat, the complaint was lodged on April 10 by a member of a local social organisation. The complainant said that the organisation had organised a mass wedding ceremony for 26–27 couples on Feb 16 in Dhanod Khurd panchayat without any govt financial assistance.The VDO allegedly demanded Rs 500 per marriage certificate for the couples and asked the organisation to pay around Rs 13,500 to process all certificates.A discreet verification conducted the same day confirmed the demand. During negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs 400 per certificate for 26 couples, totalling Rs 10,400, and called the complainant to her office Wednesday with the cash and required documents.An ACB team laid a trap and apprehended the VDO while she was accepting the bribe, Shekhawat said.A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway.
