CHENNAI: VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan has launched a sharp attack against chief ninister C Joseph Vijay over his body language during his reply to the debate on the demands for grants for the Home and Police departments in the Assembly.He called the gestures directed at DMK president M K Stalin uncalled for and contrary to basic human dignity.Dismissing the CM office’s explanation that there was no malice, Thirumavalavan insisted that such conduct undermines democratic decency.“Harming anyone’s self-respect is unacceptable in a civilised society. Political criticism is one thing, but remarks or body language meant to damage personal dignity are entirely different,” Thirumavalavan said. “Respecting elders is a core value. Holding a high constitutional post, the CM must exercise extreme caution regarding his body language.”The VCK chief also trained his guns on the Law Minister’s intervention during the debate over expunging the CM’s remarks, terming his statements a “historic error.”“The state terror during the MISA era is well known. Registering false assertions about the DMK president, who personally endured that brutal suppression, is deeply condemnable. The minister must immediately retract his remarks,” Thirumavalavan demanded.
