Patna: Teachers of all the universities and colleges across the state will protest on July 1 to express their anguish against the irregular payment of their monthly pay and pension in response to the call given by the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations of Bihar (Futab).Futab’ working president Kanahiya Bahadur Sinha and general secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, MLC, pointed out that despite the federation’s repeated requests; the state government has failed to evolve a mechanism to ensureregular payment of salary and pension to the teachers and non-teaching staff of different universities. The state higher education department has developed a habit of harassing the teachers and non-teaching staff by delaying the release of statutory salary and pension grants to the universities for months, they alleged. They further pointed out that both the working as well as retired teachers of at least nine universities in the state have not received their salary or pension for the last four months. In some universities, namely, Patna, Patliputra, Magadh and Jai Prakash universities, the payment has been made by some internal arrangement. As per earlier decision of the federation, the teachers, both working and retired, will stage protest demonstrations at least for one hour at their respective colleges and postgraduate departments on July 1 and submit a memorandum of their demands to the authorities concerned.
