Guwahati: The Vantara Foundation has deployed specialised wildlife rescue teams and ambulances to assist flood-affected wildlife and livestock in Assam, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.The personnel and vehicles will operate under the command of the state forest department and support its ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.Vantara, founded by Anant Ambani under the Reliance Foundation, is a wildlife rescue and conservation initiative based in Jamnagar, Gujarat. It operates veterinary facilities and animal ambulances and works with govt agencies on rescue, rehabilitation and conservation efforts.“One of the lesser discussed yet deeply distressing consequences of the #AssamFloods has been the devastation inflicted on our animals and wildlife,” the CM said in a post on X.“Over 10 lakh livestock have been affected, hundreds of wild animals have been swept away, and many more remain stranded or missing. While our Forest Department has mounted an extensive rescue and relief effort, the scale of the crisis calls for even greater support,” he said.“I am grateful to the Vantara Foundation for stepping forward by placing its specialised wildlife rescue teams and ambulance fleet under the command of our Forest Department,” Sarma said.The CM said animal rescue often received limited attention during natural disasters and that the assistance would strengthen efforts to save flood-affected wildlife and livestock. “Animal rescue during natural disasters often does not receive the attention it deserves. We deeply value those who have chosen to stand for this cause,” he said.
