Panaji: Valpoi is set to become the first rain gauge station in Goa this season to cross the 2,000mm seasonal rainfall mark after recording 1,960.5mm since June 1.Valpoi also recorded the state’s highest rainfall in the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, receiving 142mm, classified as very heavy rainfall.Sanquelim received 71.6mm of heavy rain, while Dharbandora (58.2mm), Quepem (57.2mm), Sanguem (54.2mm), Ponda (45mm), Ela-Old Goa (34.1mm), Mapusa (32.2mm), Mormugao (27.4mm), Margao (27.1mm), Dabolim (24.6mm) and Panaji (23mm) recorded moderate rainfall. Canacona (14.8mm) and Pernem (6.4mm) received light showers.Despite the recent rainfall, Goa has received 1,427.4mm of rain since June 1 against the seasonal normal of 2,094.1mm, leaving the state with a 31.8% rainfall deficit.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall across the state through the week, with heavy rain and gusty winds of 40-50kmph likely at isolated places on Wednesday and Thursday.
