T’puram: A day after he urged CM V D Satheesan to drop budget proposals on the sale of low-alcohol content beverages and opening up the mineral sand sector to private investments, former KPCC chief V M Sudheeran raised concerns over the probe into the death of SNDP Yogam Kanichukulangara Union former secretary K K Maheshan. Sudheeran reiterated his demand for an SIT comprising impartial senior officers to investigate the case.In a fresh letter to Satheesan on Monday, he alleged lapses in the investigation into Maheshan’s death and said authorities had taken no effective action though a complaint was submitted to the CM on June 6. He sent a copy of the letter to home minister Ramesh Chennithala.Sudheeran enclosed a petition from Maheshan’s wife Usha Devi, who alleged that sustained mental harassment and threats from SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan and his associates forced her husband to commit suicide.Sudheeran said several complaints seeking legal action against those ‘responsible’ for Maheshan’s death had been submitted to authorities over the years, but no meaningful progress was made. He expressed confidence that UDF govt would not follow what he termed the previous LDF regime’s ‘appeasing approach’ towards Natesan. He alleged that Natesan continued to make derogatory remarks against Maheshan. Urging the govt to uphold the rule of law, he sought its immediate intervention to ensure justice for Maheshan’s family.
