Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has started a new initiative of taking the cabinet meetings from the capital city of Dehradun to different parts of the state to focus on regional priorities and issues. On October 4, the first such meeting took place at Banbasa in Champawat district near Indo-Nepal border. The cabinet meeting cleared several proposals related to border districts infrastructure. On October 12, the cabinet meeting was held at Haridwar and here too the cabinet approved several policy decisions including 10 per cent reservation for retired Agniveers in Group G government jobs and infrastructural clearance for the upcoming Ardha Kumbh in 2027.
The opposition Congress is questioning the government’s decision to hold cabinet meetings away from the state capital terming it as election tours and photo Opps misusing the public funds. Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal said that the BJP government is now going to the doorstep of the people when the end is near after 10 years. Godiyal said that the government is trying to offer medicine for a wrong ailment while the real problems are entirely different.
Dhami’s election pitch is also heavily banking upon organising the ‘Ardha Kumbha’ starting from January 14 next year.
