LUCKNOW: A day after being appointed as Uttar Pradesh’s permanent Director General of Police (DGP), Rajeev Krishna on Monday highlighted the state’s progress in crime control, women’s safety, cybercrime prevention, and road safety, attributing much of the improvement to focused policing initiatives undertaken over the past several years.Interacting with journalists in Lucknow, the DGP said crime in Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a significant decline over the last seven to eight years. He particularly lauded the success of the state’s flagship Mission Shakti campaign, stating that the initiative has received an overwhelming response during the past five years.Krishna said Mission Shakti centres have been established in every police station across the state, helping reduce social and gender-related crimes. According to him, crimes against women have registered a decline ranging between 9.5% and 33% due to sustained intervention and awareness efforts under the programme.The DGP further said complaints lodged through Central and state government grievance portals have fallen by 28%, which he described as an indicator of improved policing and public confidence in law enforcement mechanisms.On cybercrime, Krishna said Uttar Pradesh has trained nearly 62,000 police personnel to tackle emerging digital threats. He claimed that the state currently ranks among the top performers in the country in preventing losses caused by cyber frauds. According to him, authorities have so far managed to freeze or seize approximately Rs 4,500 crore linked to cyber fraud cases.Highlighting technological advancements in policing, the DGP said the AI-enabled Yaksh App is now being used by around one lakh police personnel across the state, strengthening intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.Addressing road safety concerns, Krishna said 578 crash control teams have been constituted across Uttar Pradesh to prevent accidents and ensure faster emergency response. As a result, both road accidents and fatalities have declined during the current quarter. He said deaths caused by road accidents have registered an 11.5% reduction, reflecting the impact of targeted enforcement and awareness campaigns.The newly appointed DGP said Uttar Pradesh Police would continue to focus on technology-driven policing, women’s safety, cyber security and road safety while further strengthening public trust in the force.
