Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday stressed that police must use advanced technology in line with the three new criminal laws to outsmart criminals who have evolved themselves to commit digital crimes. “Colonial-era laws like the IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act were tools of repression, while the BNS, BNSS and Bharatiya Sakshya Sanhita aim to provide better and swift justice, and service,” he said while crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for the changes. Fadnavis was speaking at the inauguration of the 69th All-India Police Duty Meet at Shivaji Stadium. The six-day event, organised by Nagpur Police and the CID, will see participation from over 1,300 police personnel and police dogs from across the country. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityananda Rai will attend the concluding function.The CM said the meet highlights professional skills, discipline and modern capabilities, with a focus on cyber awareness and computer-based technologies. “It serves as a platform for states to showcase their unique policing capabilities and share best practices in investigations and technology,” he said adding technology plays a key role in justice delivery, adding that blockchain technology enhances evidence authenticity, making acquittals harder.Fadnavis pointed out that Maharashtra leads in police modernisation, including AI-driven tools, top cyber labs and advanced forensic facilities. He called for technology-driven investigations, robust forensic evidence, continuous skill enhancement and inter-state collaboration. He also noted Nagpur’s role as the host of the first police duty meet in 1959. The event was attended by State DGP Sadanand Date, CP Ravinder Singal, state CID chief Sunil Ramanand, Jt CP Navinchandra Reddy, Addl DG administration and others.
