Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will implement an AI-enabled Integrated Depot Management System (IDMS) to enhance passenger safety, improve transparency and modernise depot operations. The new system would be implemented under the Centre’s Intelligent Transport System (ITS) scheme for which the Union ministry of road transport and highway (MoRTH) has sanctioned over Rs 30 crore. The implementation period for the project will be two years in 115 depots of UPSRTC that has a fleet of over 14,000 buses. “The project focuses on complete digitisation of depot operations, covering fleet operations and fuel management,” said GM (IT), UPSRTC, Yazuvendra Kumar. At present, depot managers maintain a daily register on the allotment of duties to crew, operation and availability of buses and expenditure on fuel, finance and inventory management. The new system will require depot managers to maintain and upload every record online and in real time. Besides increasing passenger safety and comfort, it will enable paperless depots, transparent and auditable systems, data-driven decision-making, improved revenue transparency, lower maintenance costs, reduced fuel pilferage and reduced wastage. It will also lead to fuel optimisation and reduced emissions. UPSRTC will be among the first state transport undertakings to implement an AI-driven depot management framework at this scale, positioning UP as a leader in smart public transport modernisation, said the official.
