Nashik: The general body meeting of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Friday witnessed sharp exchanges as corporators raised concerns over inadequate water supply, deteriorating road conditions and ageing sewerage infrastructure in several parts of the city.Corporators alleged that water distribution in the Panchavati and Cidco divisions remained severely inadequate despite sufficient reserves in the dams. They pointed out that while Panchavati’s daily demand stands at 81 million litres per day (MLD), the division receives only around 54 MLD. A similar supply gap persisted in Cidco as well, they said.
Members further complained that elevated storage reservoirs were not being filled to full capacity, resulting in low pressure and irregular supply across multiple localities.Representatives from Cidco also highlighted that sewerage lines over two to three decades old were choking frequently and urgently needed replacement.Road-related issues also dominated the discussions, with corporators stating that damaged stretches and dug-up roads across the city were causing daily hardship to residents. They said repair work remained pending on several roads excavated by utility agencies, including MNGL, and demanded immediate restoration.Responding to the concerns, the mayor directed the civic administration to conduct a comprehensive audit of the water supply and sewerage network in the Cidco division. She instructed the water supply department to deploy tankers to areas facing inadequate or no supply. The mayor said, on the issue of damaged roads, all stretches dug up by MNGL and other agencies will be repaired by March-end using Rs 90-crore provision earmarked for restoration works. She also directed officials to initiate cases of culpable homicide against contractors who fail to install warning boards at excavation sites if any accidents occur due to their negligence.
