Akola: The budget session of the Akola Municipal Corporation descended into chaos on Monday after slogans of ‘50 Khoke Ekdam OK’ echoed inside the House, triggering a heated confrontation between the ruling BJP and Opposition corporators. As the situation spiralled out of control, mayor Sharada Khedkar suspended 16 Opposition corporators.According to sources, the disruption started when Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) corporator Sunil Innani was addressing the House. While it remains unclear who started the slogan, it quickly escalated tensions within the House.Following the sloganeering, corporators from Congress, the Uddhav Thackeray faction, and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi staged a protest. They sat in the well of the House in front of the mayor, disrupting proceedings for nearly 30 minutes. Amid continuous disruptions, the mayor ordered the suspension of 16 corporators. Police were called in to escort the suspended members out of the House, further intensifying the tense atmosphere. The ruling BJP alleged that the Opposition deliberately disrupted the budget session and stalled proceedings, necessitating disciplinary action. Opposition corporators, however, claimed that the action was aimed at suppressing their voices. They argued that instead of identifying the individuals responsible for the sloganeering, the entire Opposition was targeted.
