Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) will set up nine new power substations across Gangapar and Yamunapar areas of Prayagraj district as part of a major plan to strengthen electricity supply and reduce frequent tripping and low-voltage problems.According to officials of the power department, the new substations, along with capacity augmentation of existing infrastructure, would benefit lakhs of consumers in urban and rural areas.Of the nine proposed substations, land has already been acquired for two, while sites are being identified for the remaining seven. In Gangapar, new substations are proposed in Mauaima, Baria, Dharwai and Phulpur. Once the land is identified, a report will be submitted to the district magistrate before the proposal is forwarded to the state govt for approval. Superintending Engineer, Gangapar, Saurabh Gautam said new substations at Chamanganj and Bibipur have already been commissioned.In Yamunapar, substations are planned in areas including Juhi, Kulmai, Kaudhiyara, Koraon and Manda. Superintending Engineer, Yamunapar, Lokesh Chand said land has been identified at Juhi and Kulmai, and further action is underway.The power department will also undertake capacity augmentation of 11 existing substations in Gangapar and Yamunapar. As part of the improvement plan, 158 new transformers will be installed, while the capacity of 584 existing transformers will be enhanced. Besides, 234 protection-related works will be carried out to improve the reliability and safety of the power network.The improvement programme will also cover neighbouring districts. In Kaushambi, the capacity of 122 transformers will be increased along with 85 other works. In Pratapgarh, eight substations will undergo capacity augmentation at a cost of Rs 23 crore, besides capacity enhancement of 410 transformers. In Fatehpur, five new power lines will be constructed and five substations upgraded, while the capacity of 678 transformers will be enhanced.Chief Engineer-II, Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Prabhat Anand Moga said efforts were underway to improve power supply through new substations, lines and capacity augmentation, benefiting lakhs of consumers.
