LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has floated civil construction tender for the Lucknow Metro Phase 1B project, inviting bids worth Rs 1,877.89 crore for the construction of seven underground metro stations and tunnel works on the East West Corridor between Charbagh and Vasant Kunj.The tender covers the underground stretch from Charbagh to Chowk as part of the proposed 11.16 km corridor. It includes the construction of seven underground stations at Charbagh, Gautam Buddha Marg, Aminabad, Pandeyganj, City Railway Station, Medical Chauraha and Chowk, along with the associated tunnel works.According to the tender schedule, technical bids will be opened on July 28. After the successful bidder is selected and the letter of acceptance will be issued, the underground construction is expected to be completed within 36 months from the commencement of work.The project also includes the construction of an approximately 350 metre long ramp beyond Chowk Metro Station to connect the underground section with the elevated corridor.UPMRC has already floated tenders for the elevated section of the East West Corridor, which includes five elevated metro stations, the viaduct and the Vasant Kunj Metro Depot.The Lucknow Metro Phase 1B project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 5,801 crore. The East West Corridor will have 12 stations, comprising five elevated and seven underground stations. Construction of both sections will be undertaken simultaneously to enable the entire corridor to be commissioned within the planned timeline.UPMRC managing director Sushil Kumar said the issuance of the underground civil tender marks a major milestone for the project as the alignment passes through densely populated areas and old markets, which account for most of the corridor’s length.Once completed, the East West Corridor will provide metro connectivity between Charbagh and Vasant Kunj, improving access to Old Lucknow, including the Medical College area.
