Mandya: After inspecting public health, sanitation, water infrastructure and civic facilities in Maddur taluk, Upa Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa directed officials to strictly enforce safety standards and protect public resources.During the inspection of street food stalls and bakeries, Justice Veerappa examined the quality and storage of raw materials, water used for preparation, and cleanliness of the surrounding areas.He later visited the sewage treatment plant in Maddur and directed officials to ensure that wastewater was scientifically treated before disposal. He warned against allowing untreated sewage or effluents to enter Shimsha River and called for strict compliance with environmental regulations. Municipal commissioner Radhika and other district officials were instructed to ensure effective monitoring and proper functioning of the treatment system.At Chikka Arasikere, Justice Veerappa inspected complaints regarding encroachment of a lake. He directed officials to use official survey maps and records to identify and remove encroachments and protect the lake bed and its feeder channels. He stressed that waterbodies must be preserved for future generations and that legal action should be initiated against violations. He also inspected the Chikka Arasikere overhead water tank. He directed officials to repair leakages immediately and maintain stringent standards of water quality to ensure safe drinking water supply to residents.At Sulekere in Maddur, Justice Veerappa reviewed the ongoing Rs 34-crore lake development project. He instructed engineers to ensure that retaining walls were constructed in a manner that is durable for a long period and that feeder canals were protected.At Maddur Taluk Hospital, Justice Veerappa reviewed patient wards, pharmacy, and sanitation facilities in the presence of deputy commissioner Kumara and superintendent of police VJ Shobharani.
