Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh govt has lined up 65 projects worth Rs 1,606.83 crore to expand medical infrastructure across the state, an official spokesperson said on Friday.The largest project in the pipeline is a 1,010-bed hospital at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, with an estimated cost of Rs 855.04 crore. The proposed hospital building will be constructed above the existing basement at the institute’s new campus in Gomti Nagar Extension.Officials said that out of the 65 projects, 44 projects worth Rs 1,400.70 crore are ready for foundation laying, while 21 projects worth Rs 206.13 crore have been completed and are ready for inauguration.The spokesperson said the infrastructure push is not limited to new hospital buildings. It also includes facilities tied to expanding medical education capacity, such as hostels, lecture theatres, examination buildings, nursing colleges and residential facilities for doctors, aimed at supporting increased MBBS seats.Specialised and support infrastructure is also part of the programme, including trauma care units, maternal and child healthcare facilities, infectious disease treatment capacity, transplant services, and upgrades to essential utilities such as water supply, sewerage and fire-safety systems.At RMLIMS, a super-speciality boost includes a Kidney, Liver and Bone Marrow Transplantation Unit planned on the sixth and seventh floors of the main medical building. The Rs 18.22-crore unit is among the projects ready for inauguration.In Meerut, the existing Level-2 Trauma Centre at the medical college will be upgraded to a 100-bed Level-1 Trauma Centre at a cost of Rs 48.15 crore, while a maternal and child health centre in the paediatrics department is proposed at Rs 34.82 crore.In Jhansi, a multi-storey academic building with lecture theatres, an air-conditioned library, conference hall, cafeteria and examination hall is proposed at Rs 28.44 crore, along with a 272-bed undergraduate girls’ hostel costing Rs 26.89 crore.A nursing college has been proposed at Gonda Medical College at Rs 9.93 crore, while nursing colleges at autonomous state medical colleges in Bahraich, Ayodhya and Hardoi are among completed projects ready for inauguration. A 60-seat BSc Nursing College at Saharanpur Medical College is also included.
