Prayagraj: If the Gen Z at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar made the Union govt bend, Gen Alpha in Kishanpur town scripted a quieter, but significant success of its own on Tuesday, making Fatehpur district administration bow to its demands.Their battle was not over politics or resignations, but for basic necessities — electricity, fans, safe drinking water and proper classroom furniture.Braving hot and humid weather, hundreds of students of Sarvodaya Inter College — a govt-aided intermediate college (Classes 11 and 12) established in 1952 with around 1,800 students — staged a demonstration outside the institute.They gathered outside the main gate, holding placards and raising slogans highlighting their grievances. Messages such as ‘College ki vyavastha sudharo, chhatron ka bhavishya sudharo’ (Improve the college facilities, secure students’ future) were prominently displayed as the protesters demanded immediate action from the college administration. Some students also carried portraits of Dr B R Ambedkar. Despite the sultry weather, the students remained stationed at the protest site.The agitation soon caught the attention of the district administration, prompting education officials to step in and address the students’ concerns. The protest ended only after the students secured written assurances from the authorities to fulfil most of their demands.District inspector of schools, Rakesh Kumar, said, “We have accepted all the demands of the students, barring the one for opening a science stream. Soon, four fans will be installed in every classroom (the school has 17 of them), while faulty electrical wiring will be repaired and concealed. Desks and benches will be provided within a month, and an RO water purifier and water cooler will also be installed.”The administration has also assured the students that the quality and distribution of midday meals will be monitored properly.On the demand to introduce a science stream, Kumar said: “The school will first have to obtain recognition from the UP Board and develop the required infrastructure, including laboratories and other facilities, in accordance with the prescribed norms. Only after these requirements are met can the science stream be introduced.”
