Gorakhpur: Union petroleum and natural gas minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday said Uttar Pradesh, once known mainly for its population and poor law and order, is now recognised for development, investment and good governance.Addressing the foundation-laying ceremony of the international cricket stadium in Gorakhpur, Puri credited Uttar Pradesh’s transformation since 2017 to the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, saying the state has built a “new and strong identity” across the country.“I have seen many states as a Union minister, but the scale of work happening in UP is unmatched,” Puri said, adding that improvedlaw and order has boosted investor confidence and accelerated employment opportunities.Referring to a discussion on ethanol blending with the chief minister earlier in the day, Puri said Yogi had assured support for implementing the proposal in UP in the national interest. He also highlighted the state’s progress in road, metro and air connectivity, defence corridor projects, healthcare, education, green energy and compressed biogas initiatives.Calling the international cricket stadium a result of the chief minister’s far-sighted vision, Puri said the project would inspire young sports talents in Purvanchal. He added that Indian Oil Corporation had contributed Rs 60 crore towards the project.Union minister Kamlesh Paswan said the stadium would help produce players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Purvanchal.
