PRAYAGRAJ: In a shocking tale of deceit, a 32-year-old Kaushambi man, charged with dowry harassment and murder, got a reprieve when cops found his wife alive in Haryana after two months on Sunday. Her father and brother were arrested for filing a fake case and misleading the police. The man had surrendered in court, but is now out of jail.Kaushambi SP Rajesh Kumar told TOI that “the story began on Jan 22 when a resident of Alwara lodged a missing complaint of his 28-year-old wife with Mahewa Ghat police station, claiming that she left the house after leaving both the kids at home.”However, the woman’s father lodged an FIR against him on Feb 20 under sections of BNS and Section 3/4 of the Dowry Act, accusing him of torturing his daughter for dowry, killing her and later concealing her body. Fearing police action, he surrendered before a court on Feb 27 and had been lodged at the district jail in Manjhanpur since then.During the investigation, police got a tip that the missing woman was in touch with her cousin. Through electronic surveillance and other resources, the police recovered the woman from a rented house of her cousin in the Manesar area of Haryana.According to the police, the woman had an affair with her cousin. She had eloped with him in Aug 2024 but returned after two days.
