LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Tuesday directed all police units across the state to ensure a “Zero Incident, Zero Accident” Kanwar Yatra and upcoming festivals, while announcing a week-long statewide drive to trace missing and absconding criminals whose whereabouts could not be verified during police checks.Chairing a high-level online crime review meeting with zonal Additional Directors General of Police, Police Commissioners, Range Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General and district police chiefs, the DGP reviewed law and order, crime control, pending investigations, traffic management, cyber initiatives and women’s safety programmes.Focus on Kanwar Yatra securityThe DGP instructed all districts to make elaborate security arrangements for the ongoing Kanwar Yatra and forthcoming festivals. He directed police to identify sensitive locations based on previous incidents, deploy additional forces where required and ensure continuous surveillance.Police were asked to maintain communal harmony through preventive policing and local coordination. Security measures, including barricading, adequate lighting and traffic management, were ordered along Kanwar routes, camps, ghats and other key locations.The DGP also directed officials to strictly enforce court and government guidelines regarding the permissible height and sound levels of DJs accompanying Kanwar processions. He asked police to maximise the use of tethered drones, CCTV cameras and social media monitoring, while maintaining close coordination with neighbouring districts and adjoining states.Week-long drive against missing criminalsReviewing the Yaksh App, the DGP described beat-level intelligence as the “soul” of the application and directed police to strengthen the beat information system by ensuring accurate and comprehensive data entry across all 21 categories available on the platform.He ordered 100% verification of active criminals and announced a special week-long campaign to trace offenders found missing during the verification exercise. Officials were instructed to update the database regularly and initiate strict legal action against habitual offenders found re-engaging in criminal activities.Police personnel were also directed to upload intelligence relating to narcotics, illegal liquor, smuggling, religious conversion and other sensitive activities onto the Yaksh App.Crackdown on serious crimeThe DGP instructed district police to expedite the investigation of pending cases involving murder, dacoity, robbery, chain-snatching and other heinous crimes, and to take stringent action against habitual offenders under the Gangsters Act and Goonda Act, wherever applicable.Dashboard to monitor pending investigationsTo improve the quality and timeliness of investigations, the Police Headquarters has developed a Case Diary Monitoring Dashboard, which will monitor cases pending beyond 60 and 90 days.The portal, developed by the Technical Services Wing based on an initiative by the Auraiya Superintendent of Police, will automatically alert investigating officers and supervisory officials 15 days before an investigation reaches the prescribed deadline, enabling timely monitoring and disposal of cases.Mission Shakti Centres reduce crimes against womenThe DGP said a review of data before and after the establishment of Mission Shakti Centres indicated a 43% decline in dowry deaths and a 13% reduction in dowry harassment cases. He directed Range IGs and DIGs to continuously monitor the functioning of these centres to sustain the gains.Road safety campaign saves over 800 livesReviewing the state’s Zero Fatality Drive (ZFD) and Road Traffic Campaign (RTC), the DGP said the initiatives had led to a significant improvement in road safety.According to police data, between January 1 and June 30, 2026, road accidents declined by 9% and fatalities by 10% compared with the corresponding period in 2025, resulting in more than 800 lives being saved. The DGP directed officers to intensify the campaign further to reduce accidents and traffic congestion.Other key directionsThe DGP instructed all districts to promptly share factual information on major incidents with the media, maintain round-the-clock monitoring of social media platforms and initiate legal action against those spreading misinformation or making inflammatory posts.He also directed police to expedite investigations into missing persons, women and children, launch dedicated drives to trace missing children, ensure officers regularly update their profiles on the iGOT portal, and create dedicated vehicle dumping yards to clear police station premises of seized vehicles.
